Intel IPMI in Linux

If you want to read System Event Log (SEL) from for instance Intel SE7520JR2 (Jarell) you can use Intel tool SELViewer which I wasn’t able to get to work. Other solution would be to use standard Linux tool for working with BMC called ipmitool. To read SEL call:

ipmitool -I open sel list

If IPMI for your kernel was compiled in modules, then load them beforehand. For kernel 2.6.x:

modprobe ipmi_msghandler
modprobe ipmi_devintf
modprobe ipmi_si type=kcs ports=0xca8 regspacings=4
