AIX installation on RS/6000

Latest AIX version that RS/6000 7043-140 supports is AIX 5.1. But before trying to install check you system firmware revision and update it to the latest version. Otherwise you will be able to install only AIX 4.3.3 and older. Firware update is as simple as downloading it from IBM website, copying image to the diskette and upgrading through the SMS. One more thing to take into account is CD-RW support. Optical drive on 7043-140, at least one I working with, doesn’t support CD-RW disks. Burn image to a simple CD-R or system won’t boot from CD.
